Halifax, Nova Scotia, one of Canada’s truest gems and the gateway to North America, is a region that blends raw beauty with Old World charm. A year-round tourism destination, with direct flights from Chicago O’Hare International Airport, Halifax needed a strong local PR presence to drum up press for its myriad of seasonal vacation options. To that end, in 2009 RRPR was retained to helm the public relations campaign for FlyNovaScotia.com, the presenting sponsor of Celtic Fest Chicago set to take place that fall in Grant Park. (FlyNovaScotia.com promotes important air access routes to Nova Scotia.) RRPR executed a fun-filled weekend of festivities in the heart of Chicago, including a kickoff event at an Irish pub with native sights and sounds for media and visitors. RRPR’s extensive database of local, regional and national lifestyle and travel contacts brought together a bounty of press for a private, tented reception and tasting for FlyNovaScotia.com. More than 60 journalists attended the night’s “A Taste from each Nova Scotia Season.” RRPR further delivered with press for Nova Scotia’s chef Michael Howell, who demonstrated recipes that were open to the Celtic Fest Chicago crowds, in addition to promoting the musical performance schedule at the FlyNovaScotia.com “gathering tent” which was the central point of the Festival. The media that RRPR generated for FlyNovaScotia.com includes: Television coverage on ABC TV, CBS TV and WGN TV, Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, Crain’s Chicago, The Red Eye, Northwest Indiana Times, Metromix.com, and more.
